What's new (September 29, 2026)

Parksby now shows parking and electric-vehicle charging in many countries, with live availability where a car park, city or driver reports it. This section describes the information that involves and adds to the notice below. Where the two differ, this section applies.

  • Location. If you allow it, the app uses your device's location to show parking and chargers near you, to work out walking time, and for leave-by alerts. Places you search for are looked up through Google Places via our server. We do not track your location in the background.
  • Your contributions. When you update a car park (how full it is, a problem, a photo, or a correction to its price or hours) we store it with your account. Reports are shown to other drivers without your name. Photos are reviewed by our staff before they are published with the car park. Please do not photograph people or readable number plates.
  • Alerts. To send notifications we store a push token for your device. For leave-by alerts we store the destination and time you set; for "tell me when parking is mapped here" we store the place's location and name for up to 180 days or until we have told you.
  • Premium payments. Premium is paid through Paystack (card or M-PESA on our website) or Google Play (Android). We receive a transaction reference, the plan, the amount and whether it succeeded, renewed, was cancelled or refunded. We never receive or store your full card details.
  • How the app is used. We record app events such as screens opened, searches, car parks viewed and the map area at city zoom, with a random device identifier. We use them to improve Parksby and to fetch live data only for areas people are looking at. After 12 months they are kept only without the device or account identifier.
  • Parking and charging data. Information about car parks and chargers comes from operators, public open-data publishers (credited in the app) and drivers. It describes places, not people.
  • Deleting your account. You can delete your account in the app or at parksby.io/delete-account. Your account is deleted after a 30-day period in which you can change your mind. Contributions already published stay with the car park without your name.
